Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American anchor for a television newscast and a anchor and commentator on NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up living in New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career with KYW Radio and TV as an Philadelphia reporter in the year 1967. In 1976, Mitchell became a reporter for WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). In the following two years, she was hired by NBC News as a Washington correspondent. She began covering the White House in 1981 and was named chief correspondent for the congressional office in 1988. She was named the chief White House correspondent in 1992 and chief foreign affairs correspondent in 1994 for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell is a regular on the TV news program Meet the Press as a host and panelist. Mitchell was a panelist during the presidential debates in 1988 in the debate between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell got married to Alan Greenspan the former chairman of Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was presented with the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to honor her achievements in the field of journalism. In 2004 The Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contributions to protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began covering in the White House in 1981-1988, in both the Reagan presidency. Mitchell covered a range of noteworthy stories including arms control the budget tax reform as well as the Iran-contra scandal. She also was frequently with the President Reagan to meetings with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world top leaders.
